PISCES NEW MOON
to receive, you need empty hands
2026 NEW MOONS // PISCES NEW MOON, FEBRUARY 18
Greetings friends,
I’ve started this introduction probably ten times now. It’s been the most challenging part of this newsletter to write because I’m trying to discuss vulnerability by being vulnerable, and I keep running into my own discomfort. How ironic. I think one of the biggest challenges of healing is having to notice coping mechanisms playing out through a totally opposite material than they typically play out through. You may think you’re growing, changing, evolving—but you’ve actually just gotten more clever about how you can stay the same. Obviously, this often isn’t intentional—it’s the survival mind trying to keep us safe. But that isn’t a valid enough reason, in my opinion, to submit to it.
The long and the short of what I am trying to say is that I have been exhausted by love. Romantic love, to be specific. I never thought I would say this, but I am repulsed by the idea of being in love again. But I can recognize that repulsion is my brain being defensive. Binary thinking has been something I’ve been giving a lot more attention to as of late, as I’ve discovered that it is the elusive villain silently pitting my head against my heart. The brain loves to have an answer; that’s typically the motive for overthinking, despite it not usually leading us to one. For a long time, in love, my answer was that I would always be secure because I would never be the one to leave. I would accept the love I could get, and no matter what happened, I would stay. But over the years, the answer has calcified into the opposite. “I will always be secure because I will not engage in it again.” Two extremes! One always, the other never. Both flawed and ultimately unstable. So little in life is certain.
I’ve been annoyed that I feel so callous toward love in this season of life, because deep down, I treasure love, and the reason I’m feeling so hardened is because of the softness I am trying to protect (EW WHAT THE FUCK). Typing this out to illustrate my point feels like peeling my skin off with tweezers. It feels like a humiliation ritual to admit that I still crave the thing that has caused me so much pain. But that is this new moon. It’s about sitting with the feeling without reasoning with it, because oftentimes, feeling is not reasonable. It’s about practicing metacognition to understand what is authentically us versus what is the conditioned response we’ve developed from life experience. It’s about not needing an answer to be one thing or another but instead creating room for it to maybe be both. This moon is about letting go of things needing to be a certain way for us to accept them. It’s also about seeing the truth of our lives, our emotions, our desires, or what have you, and not assigning them value, but just noticing them for what they are.
I saw a thing the other day that said, “To receive, you need empty hands,” and it got me thinking. Yes, to receive, you need empty hands, but you also need to hold them open. You need to outstretch your arms. We cannot expect ourselves to receive the things we truly desire if we don’t demonstrate that we want them. What a vulnerable posture to be in; it’s communicating, without words, that we desire, feel deserving of, and are asking for the thing we want. And if you’ve asked for that thing in the past, only to have it burn you later on, then perhaps you’re feeling foolish and naive for returning to a pose of receptivity. You doing so means you still have hope that it’s out there. But the universe doesn’t feel the need to prove you wrong; if you’ve decided what you desire doesn’t exist, there will be no challenge from the heavens. So who are you trying to prove a point to? And what does proving that point cost you?
This moon is pointing out to us that we often decide how things are going to be before we encounter them, because we’re deeply afraid of the unknown. We project our own insecurities onto other people. We tell ourselves what we “should” want instead of listening to the heart. We try to create certainty by convincing ourselves that cognitively constructed, synthetic desire is the real thing. We tell ourselves we’re happy with how we are because we don’t know what to do with the answers that may result from us questioning that. But we can only hide from the truth for so long; sooner or later, it will find you. Mine found me while I was eating a bagel in my car. This moon may be bringing you to a realization that you’ve been trying to delay, but it will grant you access to the reality where your dream is possible once you accept it. You may find that this moon is causing you to “see behind the curtain”; once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it. And, especially if we don’t like what we see, that’s scary. But you don’t have to like something to accept it. You can, like me, be totally disgusted by it. Anyway, let’s talk more about this moon.
Not This or That, but a Secret Third Thing
This new moon might not be one that many see materially—although for some it may present itself as opportunities that feel too good to be true, dream-like, or unrealistic per their current belief system—but it will most definitely be felt in the energy of the day. It will be energetically noticeable between the 16th and 20th. This lunation is worth paying attention to for a couple of different reasons. The biggest things to note are that this new moon is the final lunation to form an aspect to Uranus before it departs Taurus, it is our first lunation since eclipse season, and it is the last new moon of the astrological year. Pretty busy! Let me break these things down.
This moon may feel like it’s tying up loose ends from eclipse season, or perhaps it’s representing a development of the previous new moon, our solar eclipse in Aquarius. Maybe something was set into motion during that moon that this moon is asking you to trust the process of. The Aquarius eclipse was us getting on the train, and this new moon in Pisces is reminding us that it’s steadily moving down the tracks—we can’t hop off and we can’t go back, so we may as well enjoy the ride. Perhaps the Aquarius moon had you acting courageously toward something or initiating an evolution process, and this moon is where you’re starting to doubt, second-guess, or panic, wondering, “What have I done?” While we may be grasping for any semblance of control, this moon highlights that the more we fuss, the more interference we will likely create in an organic development process that is better not meddled with. Clearly, that’s easier said than done. But you may find that the days leading up to this moon have made you more aware of your unconscious beliefs as you catch yourself re-engaging in behaviors that don’t actually feel like a choice but are, instead, a conditioned response. The pattern may be pulling the unconscious beliefs reinforcing these behaviors from the depths of your psyche, forcing you to see how they are still driving your actions, even if you have thought you’ve overcome their control. The thing that was initiated under the solar eclipse may be revealing what you truly believe, offering you the opportunity to override the reaction to the belief and redirect the narrative to something more consciously chosen.
It is under lunations like this one that I’m reminded how commodified astrology has become to fit the capitalist system. New moons mean new; full moons mean old! New moons mean ask for something new; full moons mean let something go! These are simplified statements that can be helpful guidelines to understand the basic meaning of the moon’s movements, but they are not the rule. I like to look at new and full moons as landmarks on a journey; looking at them as standalone events without considering where we’ve come from or where we’re going creates an incomplete picture. I say this because, while this moon does not dissuade us from setting intentions if we wish to, it may be more accurately representative of something that is already happening, and because of that, this moon may be asking us to accept that things are working in our favor. It’s representing an invitation for us to acknowledge the relationship between our inner world and outer world. Pisces governs endings and transitions—completion and wisdom found in surrendering to “what is” without trying to change it—but this moon being something “new” is talking about how birth and death are intimately intertwined. “New,” through Pisces, comes with the acceptance of what has been, is, and will be. Beginnings and endings are not separate things; they are deeply connected. So with this in mind, before you proceed reading, I invite you to consider what renewal is hidden in closure. How is your perception of or history with something preventing you from allowing it to transform? How is rigidity and categorization clouding your vision? Can you accept something as it is, even if you don’t understand it?
Uranus departs Taurus on April 25th after a long seven-ish years in Taurus; it entered Taurus in 2018. The primary conversation of this transit has been highlighting the phrase “attachment is the root of all suffering” and has likely involved us learning to let go of external forms of security that we have used to stabilize ourselves. Maybe you’ve chosen to step away from things, maybe they’ve been ripped from you, maybe they’ve been a complicated mixture of both of those scenarios. Uranus does not play favorites, and it doesn’t care for your comfort—it is a chaotic neutral, aiming only for evolution. This transit has aimed to show us that true, lasting security starts within and expands outward; it cannot be created internally through the accumulation of representations of security. The only constant in life is change. Perhaps this transit has changed the way you satisfy your hunger or desire, which has likely involved significant alterations to the way we handle money, engage in romance, construct our value systems, and define our goodness. I wrote a newsletter a little bit ago about Uranus in Taurus, and shared a brief preview of what Uranus in Gemini will bring—you can read that here.
Considering this is our last lunation forming an aspect to Uranus in Taurus, we may find that, in a way, this is our “final test,” or perhaps in a different light, this is our graduation ceremony of this transit. Pisces understands that nothing is permanent—everything you own, all that you have, is only temporarily yours; everyone dies. Our attempts to possess things may prevent us from truly appreciating them, and so perhaps Pisces can remind us that there is a sacredness in getting to experience or access things that we have no real entitlement to. While we discuss loss or endings when examining Pisces, it’s important to clarify that the endings of Pisces are not permanent or as final as we may perceive them to be on the material plane and through linear time. Matter cannot be created or destroyed; it simply shifts into different forms. Pisces is metamorphosis, like a caterpillar changing into a butterfly; we may find that so too are some of the things in our lives. Not erased, just changed.
It feels very fitting that this is our final lunation to make an aspect to Uranus in Taurus, as the culmination point that this new moon represents is what we have been guided to examine and master through the entirety of Uranus in Taurus. Create security within, and you will find it outside of you, no matter where you are or what you possess. Dissolve rigid definitions of what is good, and goodness is more readily and easily found. Free yourself from the learned value systems you have derived your inherent value from, and lasting self-esteem will be forged.
This moon forms a sextile to Uranus, inviting us to have faith even though things may feel uncomfortably unstable. The matters you are thinking of or that are being represented by this new moon may not be “new” to you at all. You may find that much longer and more complex matters you have been involved with for quite some time are now reaching a turning point, which may be why we are all more prone to confusion or paranoia about the future. The solar eclipse in Aquarius was our initiation into a new reality, and we may find that this lunation is when we have to breathe through the process of that new reality materializing. This is a process that can’t be rushed, which is where it poses the biggest challenge. This is us crossing the threshold, and while you may feel yourself in the new reality, we often have to wait for the material plane to catch up.
That said, I have to recognize that many of us likely have emotional whiplash from Uranus in Taurus; we have all perhaps been forced to learn to not base our sense of security on how secure our material world feels, that we may now find ourselves distrustful of tangible security when it shows up. If you expect disappointment, you can’t really be disappointed. While some of us may be feeling bitter toward the matters we’ve attached security to—money, love, acceptance, stability, or something else—this moon also reminds us that being closed off and rejecting ourselves before we can be rejected is just another way that we try to control the situation. Control can be exerted in a million different ways. Resentment-driven bitterness is no better than boundless desperation. If you are trying to reject pleasurable opportunities to protect yourself from future disappointment, I understand. But this lunation reminds us that it only hurts us. And that’s the quality of this moon that may feel a bit humiliating: remaining open to receiving things that have caused us so much pain in the past. But there is no nobility in choosing suffering. There is no strength in denying yourself comfort or pleasure for the sake of proving a point. There is power in continuing to honor our most delicate sensitivities, even though they’ve been exploited in the past.
You may notice that your desire was exploited in the past because of your desperation—the hunger to have something may have clouded your judgement or led you to disregard your intuitive alarms. Allowing that past pattern to push you into an opposing stance—pushing away your desires to ensure you will never feel blindsided again—is no better; it is not the wiser response. It’s the same response, repackaged. Your rejecting the thing you desire to control the future or to stabilize yourself is evidence that your desire still controls you. Uranus in Taurus has aimed to teach us to not allow desire to push us in either direction. So with this new moon, Pisces urges us to look at the space between the two obvious choices; it’s a secret third thing, the neutralized middle ground of a topic’s polarized, rivaling ends. Pisces is not or; it’s and.
A few additional things that are interesting, but perhaps less monumental, are that the moon and Jupiter are in what we call “mutual reception” at this time, Mercury is conjunct the North Node, and the Mercury retrograde period is nearly done. Mutual reception happens when both planetary bodies are sitting in the other’s sign of rulership (the moon ruling Cancer, Jupiter ruling Pisces). When in mutual reception, planets are able to communicate more effectively and their energy is usually easier for us to understand and work with; this can vary depending on the compatibility of the elements involved, but because this new moon and Jupiter are both in water signs, we can expect this to be a more harmonious expression. This mutual reception may symbolize a sense of comfort or peace we are finding in the unknown elements of our lives. Perhaps this moon is helping some of us to finally make peace with what we cannot control but is simultaneously supporting us to feel empowered in exerting our authority in areas of life we have avoided out of fear of what may happen when we act.
Mercury’s conjunction to the North Node may highlight clarity being found, likely because of our willingness to see what we have been trying to avoid. We may be facing vulnerable or uncomfortable truths with a sense of acceptance. This may also signify decisions, realizations, or conversations that feel destined in some ways. Perhaps you will find yourself learning information, through a personal breakthrough or someone sharing it with you, that will be a significant influence over how you proceed. With Mercury turning direct on the first day of Aries season, March 20th, this may be when we are piecing together confusing matters that have slowly bubbled to the surface during the retrograde period. Perhaps you will be making sense of conflicting emotions that have emerged in the past few weeks.
This moon is here to remind us that we are far more connected to everything than we may think. The thing you criticize, reject, or are repulsed by is revealing something about you that you may not want to accept. Your dreams are closer than you think. Everything that you think is out of reach is actually all around you. The things being birthed at this time are likely only possible because of a hundred deaths before them. Sometimes the only way to break a pattern is to see ourselves repeat it to the point of exhaustion. This moon intends to show us how trying to understand, create an answer, or maintain control can be the very thing that builds further distortion. So we must allow, we must notice, and we must make peace with all that is.
Happy new moon, and well done. Many are completing a great journey at this time. Celebrate your steadfastness and will.
Be well. xx, Aspen
Personal Readings + Live Seminar: Creating Capacity
You still have time to get your seat at my live seminar, which will be held tomorrow, Friday, March 20th, at 2:30 pm EST. In this seminar, I’ll be sharing how Jupiter in Cancer has aimed to help us expand our emotional capacity for wealth, pleasure, visibility, complexity, love, and more, and how we can utilize this final stage of its transit to reinforce and integrate its teachings. This conversation is also shaped by additional transits, which will also be referenced and discussed, one of which is this new moon. The teachings of Jupiter in Cancer will translate directly into Jupiter’s activation of Leo, so I’ll also be sharing a sneak peek of how these themes and concepts will be built upon once Jupiter enters Leo at the end of June 2026. If you have some big goals, but keep running into limiting beliefs, doubt, or discomfort with expanding, this seminar is for you. If you cannot attend, all registrants will be sent the recording via email once the seminar is over. You can get your seat through the button below; hope to see you there.
If you would like to work with me 1:1 but don’t know where to start or want to learn more about my process, I’d suggest you book a (free) discovery call. You can do that here.

ARIES, this moon may be a change of mind and a shift into a state of surrender and receptiveness. You may find yourself making peace with a matter you’ve been wrestling with and feeling grief or stress over. You may notice that your values or a foundational belief you have centered yourself on for quite a long time is changing, which may feel hard to accept, as that leaves you with the question, “What comes next?” This moon reminds you that sometimes sitting still and observing is the solution; action is not always what will resolve the predicaments we are in. You may be realizing through this lunation that you are still feeling a sense of unrest around an unknown in your life, which is why this moon urges you to pause. What do you notice when you halt your busyness? Invisible opportunities are forming right now; just because you cannot see them doesn’t mean they are not happening.
TAURUS, this may be a time in which something online or in your community space inspires you to see yourself more holistically. This could be a valuable time for you to examine how you’ve perhaps unconsciously placed expectations upon what evolution and spiritual development are “supposed” to look like. Perhaps you are finding yourself confronted with an opportunity to transform and evolve, but it doesn’t feel comfortable. Did you think real change and evolution were going to happen in your comfort zone? Were you expecting it to feel different? This moon may highlight the importance of you observing how your beliefs about what transformation looks like may ironically prevent you from truly changing. This could be a time in which you are seeing outside of yourself, which may feel destabilizing, as you may be finally seeing an evolutionary process that you have avoided by bettering yourself in ways that feel more comfortable and safe to you. This moon is guiding you into a new chapter of self-understanding, but it may start when you start embracing the discomfort of not understanding yourself as well as you may think you do. Potential is limitless, but we only can only actualize that which we have the willingness to back with faith (and eventually, action).
GEMINI, success is seldom a linear process or a singular definition; it’s unique to what fulfills each of us. You may be recognizing through this moon that you have thought success is supposed to look a certain way, which has perhaps shaped the way you have pursued it. How do you define success? What does that feel like? You may be realizing that you have checked the boxes you were promised would bring you security, but perhaps there’s still something missing. This may be a valuable time to reorient your priorities to be more aligned with what feels right, which may mean that you are taking a step away from something you associate with security or stability. This may not mean you are taking action upon these realizations, but perhaps you are connecting dots and being more observant of how you are allowing popular metrics of success to shape your own success narratives. This could be a valuable time to invest in something that you feel intuitively guided toward, which may mean that you will be asked to create evidence for yourself that you are deserving of something you desire or are capable of making change in but may not have faith in. This may require financial investment, which could feel challenging for the emotional body, but it may be an important piece of reinforcing the wealth and success beliefs you wish to have.
CANCER, this new moon may be an ideal time for you to demonstrate faith in yourself, in the plan, in the path you’re walking…in everything. You may find that there are invitations through this lunation to reinforce beliefs or spiritual ideologies that you have been studying but don’t quite come naturally to you yet. It will be important to observe your feelings as you move into bigger spaces; you might encounter discomfort or imposter syndrome at this time, but this moon urges you to temper these feelings with a reminder that you are deserving. You can honor your emotions without allowing them to influence or dictate your actions. You may have opportunities to learn, teach, or travel at this time, or perhaps you’re already doing one or multiple of those things. These opportunities may represent you putting into practice something that you have been pondering in concept. You may be awaiting an answer to something at this time, and this moon may symbolize you being in a necessary waiting period of preparation. Do not confuse no answer with being denied. You may find yourself trying to create an answer for yourself so you can feel in control of the situation at hand, but this moon points out that your doing so may unintentionally result in self-sabotage. Embrace optimism and opportunity at this time. There are just as many best-case scenarios as there are worst-case scenarios, so wouldn’t you prefer to focus on what could go right?
LEO, this moon asks you to see yourself not through the lens of your idealizations, insecurities, fears, or pain, but as you are. Can you make peace with who you are in this moment? You may notice that there are opportunities for you to deepen your trust in an evolutionary process at this time, which may mean that you are having to confront parts of yourself that you have long avoided. You are more magnetic to receiving help at this time, but you will not receive it if you don’t ask. Your sexual identity or understanding of intimacy is bound to be going through a profound shift at this time, although it may be subtle if you are resisting change. You may be realizing that the thing you are trying to access—certainty, confidence, intimacy, clarity—is on the other side of the thing you fear. This moon reminds me of that phrase, “You can only meet others as deeply as you’ve met yourself.” Perhaps you are wanting to access depth through someone else because you have been afraid of seeking it within yourself. Help, love, understanding, and support are around you, but they will always be fleeting if you cannot, one, provide them to yourself; and two, admit that you want them.
VIRGO, there may be a renewal or an entirely new beginning available to you in partnership and committed matters under this lunation, but there is the invitation for you to show up in these environments from a place of openness and empathy. You may find that rigid perceptions or a critical mind will distort the truth of connections or opportunities that may actually be very enriching and supportive to you. You may find that your experience in partnership or commitment is reflecting back to you unrealized parts of yourself that are ready to transform. Partnership may make you feel uncomfortable at this time because it is making visible the parts of yourself that you typically hide from or try to ignore. This may pose to you the opportunity to evolve and transform, but you may have to release the comfort or security you find in being correct, flawless, or wise. What are your closest connections teaching you? This moon asks you to be vulnerable with both yourself and others, as your doing so may guide you into a more intimate and spiritually connected expression of self.
LIBRA, this moon may have you realizing just how much power you have over your experience and urges you to step into a more authoritative role in your life. You may be having to acknowledge how you have contributed to your own suffering by being passive, avoidant, or self-victimizing. You are being granted opportunities to alleviate your discomfort or pain at this time, which may mean that you are changing your mindset around productivity, personal accountability, and stewardship, but these opportunities are likely only available to you through honest self-evaluation. You may find yourself trying to wiggle out of responsibility by sharing blame or making excuses; this moon urges you to dissolve narratives about what makes you “good” or “bad,” as they may be what drives you from seeing the truth of your current circumstances and authority. You have gotten yourself here, and you can get yourself to other places! This moon may prompt changes to your lifestyle that will be contributors to your personal transformation, perhaps because you are submitting yourself to a structure that demands you be more accountable. Celebrate your ability to become something new. Your healing may start to be more visible when you stop living by the narrative of victimhood.
SCORPIO, you may be seeing yourself more clearly through this lunation as you bring more awareness to your patterns in romantic matters and unconscious behaviors in social spaces. This may be a time in which you are realizing you’ve been more concerned with being perceived as something than with actually embodying and becoming it. Perhaps you’ve thought that others perceiving you as that thing would make it true within you. You may have to confront behaviors you repeat in romantic connections that are ultimately harmful to you or others, which may mean that this is a time in which truth is being revealed to you, and it may not be pleasant to see. This likely symbolizes you closing a cycle or pattern that you’ve repeated in your romantic life, which may be because you have “seen behind the curtain,” and you cannot go back to how things were. This moon invites you to surrender to what is ending at this time and to find a sense of peace in not knowing what comes next. This may present you with a new beginning in romantic matters, which may involve a new person, but it could also be an ending of a relationship that has served its purpose. Whatever is occurring, this lunation asks you to perceive any romantic or social shifts as opportunities to see yourself in a clearer light.
SAGITTARIUS, your understanding of what a new beginning is “supposed” to look like may be challenged by this moon; perhaps you’ll be realizing that many roads lead to the same destination. This is an important time for you to trust in your intuition and instincts, and it’s important also to differentiate your feelings from your intuition, as your emotional body may be feeling unstable at this time due to a process being put into motion that you cannot necessarily stop. This is not the time to panic. This new moon reminds you that all is well; perhaps you are in the beginning stages of a dream being realized, and this is simply not how you’d imagined it would unfold. This may involve new opportunities in your family life or home; you could be relocating or changing your definition of what family looks like because of developments in relationships. This moon invites you to reinforce your deservingness of your dreams and desires; perhaps some will be starting to materialize at this time. Meeting emotions where they’re at under this lunation—without trying to get them to mean something—will be beneficial to you. Let emotion inform you and pass through you without allowing it to dictate your actions.
CAPRICORN, this lunation highlights the value in noting truths that have existed for perhaps quite a long time but have not been acknowledged and, therefore, have been ignored. This moon may have you instigating a conversation or sharing a thought that you have been meditating on for quite some time. You may be asked by this moon to acknowledge how you perpetuate your own suffering by evading conversations or ignoring intuitive feelings that may not lead to immediate or explosive consequences but poison you slowly over time. You may find that you have stayed in environments, agreements, or relationships for far longer than is healthy for you, simply because you have been able to tolerate your unhappiness or lack of fulfillment, despite it being there. This moon invites you to notice how you may be delaying a more potent experience of happiness simply because of an unwillingness to destabilize the reality that remains structurally sound with your compliance. While this may not be a time for action, this is an important time for you to notice how you are feeling instead of continuing to tell yourself a lie just to keep the peace.
AQUARIUS, this moon may have new financial opportunities presented to you through this moon, but through these new opportunities, you may gain access to your unconscious narratives about deservingness. Perhaps this energy is urging you to construct a new value system that is compatible with and supportive of the dreams and desires you are actively pursuing, or are aspiring to pursue but have not yet acted toward. Perhaps you have been reaching a stride of consistency, which may be yielding results you have long desired, but maybe you’re realizing that you unconsciously never expected them to arrive. This energy may be reflecting back to you the hard work you have invested into your emotional foundations and inner sense of security; perhaps you went through a period of financial struggle because of unattended emotional and physical health matters. You may be seeing the value in taking the time to attend to the stability of your inner world, as you are perhaps now seeing how your capacity has expanded and is allowing you to do more without exhausting yourself. Identify any limits you are placing upon your ability or deservingness; remember, wealth and abundance are limitless, and they don’t strictly exist in the material world. Notice them around you!
PISCES, this lunation may bring you a new sense of self, perhaps because of work you’ve been doing to peel away the layers of “not you” that have accumulated from your varying life experiences. You may be realizing that you’ve unconsciously been identifying with pain from the past, which has perhaps been the reason that you’ve struggled to experience healing. This moon may be highlighting you meeting a more truthful iteration of yourself because of the space that you have created for two truths to exist at once. Perhaps you are honoring your pain and acting in spite of it. This moon may signify you making peace with matters that have troubled you for quite a long time; perhaps you are realizing beliefs you’ve carried about what healing or self-realization is supposed to look like. Maybe you’ve been unknowingly allowing the past to shape who you choose to be. This lunation may symbolize you crystallizing a new self-concept that is rooted in the truth of who you are, which is entirely separate from the experiences of the external world. This new self may result in you feeling inspired to change your appearance in some way to commemorate this change; perhaps you’ll be distilling a different expression of your personality or character, which will influence your personal style. Overall, this moon urges you to embrace the process of becoming and everything that entails.
