CANCER NEW MOON
The luckiest day of the year. The miracle of life and secret new beginnings.
Greetings friends,
How many times have you sat in the bough of a tree and thought of its years as a seedling? Have you ever been to a concert and wondered what led to the artist’s fame? Is there something that you’re quite talented at now that was once a foreign subject? We seldom tend to think of these matters’ origin places in the hustle-oriented nature of our culture. But the majority of great things have humble beginnings.
When we’re asked to define success and abundance, I think it’s not unfair to say that many of us think of status, money, luxury, titles, a reputation, a name—having “made it.” We have collectively been conditioned to value the result more than the process, as it’s rare for the public to applaud the process more than the creation it produces. But if we wish to achieve greatness—however you define that for yourself—we must be willing to, one, curate a stable foundation that can hold all of that greatness, and, two, we must accept that the applause, fame, awards, and compensation may take much longer to receive than we imagine—and we must accept the uncomfortable possibility that they may never come at all.
This is a new moon that enormously blesses anything that we are beginning, but it invites us to thoroughly examine our intention behind beginning the things we are starting before we embark upon them. You may not realize it, but when you enjoy the shade of a grand tree, you are also appreciating all the circumstances it overcame and the storms it weathered to reach those heights. When you cheer at the concert of your favorite musician, you’re also cheering for the multitude of times they faced defeat and decided to keep going. When you utilize your talent, you're paying homage to the number of hours that were spent toiling over honing it. Because our world is so results-focused, we may not have the instinct to consider the hours, resilience, determination, and grit that it took to reach that point of accomplishment. Yet, without each of those moments, the accomplishment could never have come to be. That is what we are being guided to ponder through this Cancer new moon. We are being asked to honor the beginning and all of the potential it holds.
THE BIG PICTURE
This new moon is special for a couple of different reasons. The first is that it’s happening in conjunction with Jupiter, the planet of expansion, good fortune, blessings, and abundance, meaning that this is also under the influence of the Jupiter cazimi. I will expound upon cazimis in a moment, but I first have to note that the last time we had a Jupiter cazimi in Cancer (the sign of Jupiter’s exaltation, where it is more favorably supported to demonstrate its talents and teachings) was in 2002. The fact that we have Jupiter and the moon being contacted by the sun to form the cazimi and the new moon—and Jupiter is exalted here and the moon is in rulership—is pretty damn wild. This is extremely fertile energy, to say the least.
A cazimi happens when the sun conjoins a planet, giving it “the power of the king” for a day. The word “cazimi” is derived from an Arabic phrase meaning “as if in the heart,” “in the heart,” or “in the center.” If the sun is the king, the planets are the advisors and subjects of varying rank and status. Upon a planet’s cazimi, it is offered a seat at the royal throne, just for a day, to exemplify its most notable qualities and draw the kingdom’s attention to the matters it values most. A Jupiter cazimi has been called by some texts the “luckiest day of the year” or the “day of miracles” due to Jupiter’s blessed nature, but I’ve found that this can often be misleading to many, as we are so heavily conditioned as people to hear “luck” and “miracles” and immediately go looking for the physical evidence to represent it.
Jupiter is the planet of faith. Luck, by definition, is success or failure brought on entirely by chance rather than through one’s intentional actions. Likewise, a miracle is defined to be “a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.” With these things in mind, in my opinion, the Jupiter cazimi is not so much a date for us to experience heightened lucky encounters and increased material miracles, but instead, is an annual reminder that a stroke of luck—a miracle—can happen at any moment, and therefore, we must always be open to their occurrence.
It is a reminder that this human experience is inherently magical, despite our tendency to feel underwhelmed by the familiar—what we might deem as monotony—of our surroundings and our lives as they currently stand. Funnily, the day of the Jupiter cazimi is often so overly hyped, causing people to expect to see the miracle and then getting disappointed when they don’t experience anything they’d define to be even remotely miraculous.
But this is Jupiter’s exact intention and proves its teaching to be a success.
When we expect to see miracles, we make ourselves more open to them. When we’re told to believe that today is the day that everything changes, we look for more opportunities for magic to be witnessed, and we look for the things that make today so special. And so, in Jupiter’s humorous nature, the day of its cazimi is a day in which we receive its blessing, even if we may think we have not. Its blessing is the reminder that the mind is a powerful thing—faith, perception, and assumption as well. Its blessing may not always be a tangible symbol of good luck—you may not have a winning lottery ticket materialize on your doorstep—but you might see a rainbow outside your window, reminding you of the wild, but non-zero, chance that you’d find a pot of gold at its end.
Considering new moons are already valuable for intention setting and often mark new beginnings in some way, this new moon’s conjunction with Jupiter enhances its fertility, making this a very, very ideal time to begin things. But the second very interesting thing about this new moon is its participation in a yod formation with Mars in Virgo and Pluto in Aquarius. I created a video analysis outlining what this yod means and also wrote up a PDF describing how the yod will show up for each sign and how they can work with it. You can get that by becoming a paid member of my newsletter, or you can get it as a standalone offering here. It’s also available in my summer 2025 forecast, The Turning Point (which is 17% off through 7/1, btw) as a bonus offering!
A yod is a planetary formation that is an opportunity for acceleration in our spiritual development and personal ventures, but it can be deceiving, as it often involves conflicts, difficulty, and resistance. Yods are sometimes described to be exams from the universe that will either reveal our mastery of something or highlight what we still need to spend time studying. This does not take away from this new moon’s fertility and blessing for setting intentions, but this does construct a fascinating conversation around how we may be unintentionally holding ourselves back from receiving blessings by clinging to tradition and familiar practices. We may be stifling our alignment with the things we are trying to receive by thinking there is a specific way to acquire them.
Each yod formation has a unique narrative, and this yod describes how this moon and Jupiter cazimi may be a bit of a red herring from the universe, distracting us from a greater conversation revolving around our expansion into a more authentic identity and our achievement of certain desires relating to wealth, abundance, and growth. That doesn’t invalidate this moon, but it is an interesting additional layer to the current astrological climate we are collectively in. Again, you can hear the full conversation about this formation and this new moon’s involvement in it through this analysis.
At this moon’s core, though, we are asked to honor the sacredness of beginnings and the concept of the origin place. Because this lunation is forming in the moon’s home sign of Cancer, we are reminded of all that is needed for something to grow: time, nourishment, attention, patience, and care. We are being reminded that if we want things to last, we must give them the necessary time and resources for them to properly take root so that they can establish a strong foundation. Cancer naturally governs the fourth house of home, family, roots, foundations, origins, and private matters. This house will reference the condition of our childhood environment and hint at experiences and energies that we were subject to that have shaped us on a very fundamental level. No matter how far you travel from your hometown or how much distance you create between you and your parents, echoes of your family and origin place will ring through your voice, movements, and instincts in the most nuanced ways.
We also examine the concept of motherhood through this moon, Cancer, and the fourth house, perhaps observing what narratives have traveled through our maternal lines, identifying how they have shaped us, and acknowledging how the pen is now in our hands. It is through Cancer, and by association, through the moon, that we observe the threads that weave us together with our mothers, and their mothers, and their mothers’ mothers. We examine the talents, pain, shame, power, grief, magic, and traditions that are carried in our wombs and planted into the wombs of our daughters before they’ve even taken their first breath. It is through the moon that we can witness the cyclic nature of everything, the ever-perpetuating repetition of patterns, which, while they may manifest differently over time, still can be drawn back to their initial event with enough observation and awareness. Each generation creates a new nesting doll that the previous generations are contained by.
Through this new moon, we’re invited to consider how we can provide the things we are beginning with the best opportunity to reach their highest potential, which may mean that we must slow our approach in some capacity so that we can allow things to follow their natural cadence. We are reminded that rushing to create a foundation will only lead to a greater fall later down the road; we may temporarily get ahead of our competitors, but in reality, our overcoming them is likely short-lived. And so we’re ushered into a more mindful flow with our energy levels and productivity habits, we’re reminded that we are our biggest competition, and therefore, we shouldn’t allow external chatter and what we might perceive as “being behind” to deter us from the curation process of whatever we are formulating.
This new moon encourages us to embrace the growth that happens in private, as it is often what supports the public wins. It encourages us to pause from trying to acquire our desires through force and asks us to first create a space that our desires could comfortably and sustainably exist within. We might find that our doing so naturally attracts our desires to us with more ease, and through that, we may understand just how much we were unnecessarily exhausting ourselves. Strangely, this lunation reveals how much we’ve been overcomplicating things and suggests a simpler, easier, gentler way to acquire the things we crave. Through this moon’s references to the maternal line, motherhood, and gestation, as well as Jupiter’s influence, we’re being urged to take our nurturing into our own hands. This may look like us recognizing that there is some help we can only provide for ourselves, but that is not encouraging us to close ourselves off from help to become hyper-independent. This asks us to develop more discernment around when it is time to ask for help and when it is time to more devotedly parent ourselves—when it is time to sink into the arms of our loved ones and when it is time to pick ourselves up.
Whatever you are starting under this energy, whether it’s a business, a relationship, or dance lessons, I urge you to celebrate the sacredness of beginning. I urge you not to fixate on what you want it to become but to appreciate it for what it is now. Not everything we do has to have a practical function, nor does it have to lead us to some monumental achievement. When we release our agendas for things to be what we want them to be, and we’re instead able to meet them where they’re at in the present, we get to witness their organic becoming process, and that is a precious privilege indeed.
Think of yourself as the mother of the thing you are starting and it as your child. Provide it with nourishment, love, and encouragement. Believe in it and cheer it on. Protect it. But don’t try to force it into being a certain way. Don’t shame it for falling below your expectations. Your desire for it to become a specific thing may prevent it from blossoming into what it’s meant to be. And what it’s meant to be may be far more, far bigger than your imagined plans for it.
I wish you the most blessings over whatever you are starting under this energy.
Happy new moon.
xx, Aspen

I’M LAUNCHING A PODCAST! SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY TO BE FEATURED…
Yes, that is correct; I’m launching a (currently untitled) podcast! In fact, the very first episode is now published and is available to my paid audience—it is an in-depth forecast for the astrological movements of July 2025, including an overview of Uranus’s movement into Gemini, Mercury retrograde, and more nuanced details of what the month has in store for us. I’ve considered starting a podcast many, many times but have always felt intimidated by the format of it, considering it’s much longer-form than any other audio/video media I’ve toyed with in the past. But my dad has lent me his audio setup, and I have realized that there’s really nothing holding me back now. :P
This podcast will be a mixture of exclusive episodes for my paid community and free episodes for my entire audience.
For my paid audience, every month, I will be releasing a forecast for the month ahead, as well as the occasional audio essay revolving around self-development topics using the current transits and other astrological concepts as a guide.
For my free audience, I will be releasing a monthly advice column episode, which I’m very excited about, as this will allow me to be more interactive with you! In these episodes, I will be responding to your questions and inquiries about the topic chosen for that episode. I’ll be looking at your natal chart and the current transits impacting you to offer you some insight into how to navigate your experiences. To submit a question for the opportunity to be featured, all you have to do is fill out the form below.
The first advice column’s topic is going to be, Where Do I Start? You can submit an entry anytime between now (June 26th, 2025) and next Friday (July 4th, 2025).
If you would like to listen to the July forecast, become a paid member through the button below!

ARIES, a new beginning in your home, family, living space, or foundational sense of identity may be preparing to take shape. New opportunities may surround you in your most familiar spaces, so it’s encouraged for you to pay attention to the nuances of the mundane, as you may overlook potential blessings by looking for something more obvious. This may also be a renewal and rebirth in your identity; perhaps you are reflecting upon your childhood and how it shaped you and are considering how you might be able to expand beyond aspects of your identity that were constructed by your childhood environment. This may be a favorable time for you to start being more intentional with where you are investing your time and resources; you may find yourself pulling your attention away from certain things so that you can pour more of your efforts into yourself. You are highly favored to start things under this energy; intuition is heightened, so utilize it as a guide as you embark upon new investments.
TAURUS, the invitation of this new moon for you is for you to be more aware of the opportunities for growth that lie in what you might consider to be ordinary experiences—matters that may seem insignificant because they are disguised in “normal” things. This may present you with an opportunity to deepen an emotional connection through an expansive conversation, but you may have to zoom out of your own perspective in order to reap the rewards. This is a favorable time for you to implement practices in your day-to-day activities that promote presence and mindfulness; habits that root you into “the now” may be valuable to you, as they will support you to be more conscious of the potential that surrounds you and sits within you at all times. This moon is a reminder that every great, successful, expansive thing once started as an idea. You may have ideas under this energy that will open very significant doors for you. Pay attention.
GEMINI, there may be opportunities for substantial financial blessings to be found through this new moon. However, operating from attachment and a desire to control or possess may drive the things you desire further from you. This is an important time to trust your intuition when it comes to decisions or matters involving morals and finances. You may find that seeds are being planted under this energy that will become very fruitful later on, but the invitation of this moon is for you to prepare the space for the abundance to sit comfortably before it arrives. This may involve you participating in the flow of financial matters, meaning that you may be letting go of money in some way, which may feel contradictory to this moon’s surface appearance. But this moon encourages you to listen to what feels right rather than trying to cling to logic and what might be deemed as the “safe” option in your financial and moral decisions. You have a great opportunity to lay a foundation for expanded financial security.
CANCER, this moon in your sign may be uplifting you into a more optimistic and trusting mindset, which is perhaps prominently awakening your intuition so it can guide you into more fulfilling directions. This may involve a big personal breakthrough; perhaps you will be examining aspects of your identity and putting some pieces together that allow you to know yourself better. Through this process, you may embark upon a new journey, either literally or metaphorically, or perhaps you will start to plant the seeds for a new venture to be realized. This may also be a very healing time within your body, femininity, and self-perception; perhaps you are alchemizing pain points that you have long avoided and are feeling lighter because of it. Through this new moon, you are encouraged to set any intentions you wish; no dream is too big. This moon encourages you to move intuitively rather than trying to act from logic and practicality, as your intuition is activated majorly under this energy to support your next steps.
LEO, there is a secret beginning forming around you, but it may only be visible through your peripheral vision. Can you sense it? Can you feel it? This new moon may symbolize a breakthrough in your subconscious programming; you may be becoming aware of childhood conditioning that has subtly influenced the way that you perceive yourself, opportunities around you, and your life circumstances. This may be a time in which you’re connecting the dots between things that you previously thought were unrelated. There may also be an expansion within your spiritual consciousness at this time; you may feel a sense of safety in the divine plan for you that you have struggled to fully embrace in the past. Embrace any transitions you are moving through; there may be things that you feel intuitively guided to let go of that are meant to clear space for new, more aligned experiences.
VIRGO, this new moon is highly favorable for you, as you’re granted the opportunity to create the future you desire by acting as if you’re already living it. This moon may present you with opportunities to evolve spiritually but also to make advancements toward your hopes and dreams; to access them, you’re encouraged to open yourself up to all of the potential timelines that may light a pathway for you to get there. This moon may urge you to consider where you have become stuck in your own perspectives or cemented in self-righteousness so that you can get out of your own way and start making progress toward the matters that you wish to experience and opportunities you wish to access. This may be a valuable time for you to hear other people’s perspectives and experiences, so you might allow them to inform your understanding of your role in your immediate relationships and the world. Zooming out of your own perspective may help you to get a more holistic picture of how to actualize your desires.
LIBRA, this moon reminds you that you are entitled to pursue authentic desire and are not obligated to fulfill the expectations that have been placed upon you by others or a previous version of yourself—you are allowed to begin again. Maybe you are considering a new venture that you know will take time to cultivate; this moon encourages you to take your time as you outline any plans you are making. This may involve career or your reputation in some way, and while it may point to career advancement, you may also find that this involves you making changes in your professional life to make space for the exploration of other things that you define as successful. You are perhaps devoting yourself to a path that resonates more with your heart than with traditional symbols of achievement. If you can’t enjoy the life you’ve created because of the work that is demanded to maintain it, then maybe it is time to redefine what truly matters to you.
SCORPIO, this new moon may be providing you with a new perspective on your childhood, which is perhaps allowing you to see yourself from a different point of view and allowing you to heal wounds revolving around internalized shame and self-rejection. You may find that you are starting to think about moving away from a literal home, or perhaps you’re dissolving belief systems that have felt safe but have restricted you in some way. Your intuition is highlighted and strengthened at this time, meaning that it may be guiding you into uncharted waters that will be very favorable to you if you can surrender to the current. This moon highlights the importance of perception—you will see what you are expecting to see. Indulging fear and pessimistic thought patterns may hold you in stale spaces; it may be time for you to move away from familiarity. Although this may feel uncomfortable, you’re encouraged to trust the plan. This is a time to assume that things are happening for you and are being orchestrated to serve your best interest.
SAGITTARIUS, you may find that you are addressing fear of abandoning safety through this moon as you prepare to transform your concept of home or security. Perhaps you are shedding things that have made you feel materially safe as you prepare to embark upon a new journey, whether that is literal or spiritual. This may be an important time for you to examine how your attachment to certain symbols of safety is holding you in unwanted cyclic patterns. While you can validate any fear or discomfort that arises in the emotional body, this is an important time for you to not allow emotion to guide your actions. Instead, you can utilize your heightened intuitive sense to light the path forward. You may feel that there is no gentle way to follow your intuition—it may feel like it’s asking you to be “all in” or “all out”—but this lunation reminds you that sometimes our inner knowing cannot be justified materially, and we must take the leap to receive the confirmation that it was right.
CAPRICORN, there may be a renewal happening in your understanding of partnership, commitment, and devotion; perhaps your perspective of or beliefs around these concepts are expanding and shifting, which is encouraging you to interface with your closest friends and loved ones differently. You may find that you are being called to curate a new foundation within your existing close partnerships (whether those are romantic, platonic, or professional) or are identifying a new framework that you’d like to implement in future ones. This new moon highlights the necessity of mutual care and empathy; perhaps you are learning to honor your emotional needs more and are being invited to accept more help and support from others. You may be shifting relationships away from a transactional, exchange-based structure, which is guiding you to decenter being needed by others. This moon encourages you to embrace vulnerability and your inner sensitivities.
AQUARIUS, there may be new opportunities that are being provided to you when you construct rituals and daily structures that prioritize bodily wellness and nervous system regulation. You may be starting to recognize the indirect but powerful influence that structure and personal discipline have on your ability to receive abundance and good fortune. This moon points to you starting something that will require time and consistent effort to see the fruits of, but highlights the potential for a bountiful harvest if you can devote yourself to the ritual of tending to it. This may relate to your health, a skill, or a new work matter. This may even relate to domestic tasks or a pet—maybe you’re thinking of getting one! Whatever the case, this lunation emphasizes the sacredness of ritual, as it creates a framework for you to have more freedom in your body, work, lifestyle, and more.
PISCES, this new moon may be activating your intuition in big ways, which may mean that you’re being drawn into directions that demand you trust yourself, even if others do not. You may find that trying to be understood by others or clinging to external approval separates you from your inner sense—it is highly important for you to listen to your inner guidance at this time. This moon may have you conceiving something that you are intended to nurture and grow—while this could be a literal baby that you are conceiving, it may also be a creative idea, a new self-concept, or a new relationship. You may be approaching new or existing relationships with a lighter hand, embracing the things that they are teaching you and revealing about you, without needing to control them to create a false sense of security. This is a time in which you are likely being shown how to trust yourself more, which could simultaneously be expanded into your ability to trust those you are closest to and the universe itself.
